From the 9th to the 17th of November 2020 the NATO Security Force Assistance Centre of Excellence (NATO SFA COE) conducted the “SFA Operators Course”.
The purpose of this course is to improve the competency and effectiveness of SFA Operators (Advisors, Mentors and Trainers) working in current and future missions and security related capacity-building.
The course is a NATO SELECTED course, enhancing the practical understanding and application of NATO SFA operators working as part of a comprehensive and integrated approach. At the end of the course, attendees should better understand the environment in which Security Force Assistance activities are conducted (generating, organising, training, enabling, advising and mentoring) in order to improve the performance of designated actors.
Due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, the course was conducted in a virtual mode with live lessons and exercises supported by lecturers from the NATO SFA COE and speakers from the Military and Academic environment coming from various countries.
The online edition of the SFA Operators Course was attended by twenty-one military and civilian students from nine different countries.
As regards the training block dedicated to communication, from the strategic to the operational level, academic teachers from prestigious Italian universities intervened alongside military lecturers illustrating case studies. This demonstrates the continuous synergy between the academic and military environments in Security Force Assistance.
Once the basic capacities of the future SFA operators are established, the Centre will develop advanced and more specific training solutions to enhance the SFA operators’ capabilities to increase the level of intervention worldwide, through new high-level courses and seminars in the field of SFA.
