On the 11th of May 2023, a delegation composed of the attendees of the “Senior Course on Security and Defence Study” at the Albanian Armed Forces Defence and Security College (ADSC) visited the NATO Centre of Excellence for Security Force Assistance (NATO SFA COE).
The Director of the NATO SFA COE, Col. Massimo Di Pietro, welcomed the delegation composed of 20 international officers from Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Kosovo and North Macedonia, and provided an informative briefing on the role of the Centre and its main activities in support of the SFA implementation programs within NATO.
Among the projects, the COE’s Albanian Senior Officer, the Analysis and Lessons Learned branch head, presented the results of the SFA Advisors’ Enhancement Seminar 2023. He also illustrated the goals of the ongoing international workshop, run with experts from the Finnish Defense Forces International Center (FINCENT) and the US Joint Center for International Security Force Assistance (JCISFA) for the NATO certification of new SFA training solutions.
The attendees had the opportunity to meet the other members of the staff and receive further information on the concluded and current editorial and research projects promoted by the Centre in the field of Defence Capacity Building and Partnership with NATO, the United Nations, and the European Union.
Moreover, the delegation had the opportunity to visit the ITA Army Combat Training Centre of the Simulation and Validation Centre of the Army (Ce.Si.Va.) in charge of the training of the units through LIVE simulation systems.
The Combat Training Centre Commander, Lt. Col. Marcello D’Agostino, explained the “Land Training Integrated System” program, including all the advantages over traditional training activities.
The head of the Albanian delegation, Col Razije Mehmeti, thanked the NATO SFA COE for the warm hospitality and highlighted how the visit represented an added value for the training of the attendees of the SCSDS course, who will be employed in important national and international roles.
In addition, the entire delegation commended NATO SFA COE’s role as a focal point in the field of research and training of Security Force Assistance activities for the benefit of the entire NATO and its Partners.
